The race -relationships back in the 60's were a lot more severe and public than the race-relationships today. Back then, the police really didn't mind if white people threw a bomb into the back of a bus filled with Freedom Riders. All they really did was tell the people to stop harassing them and that they had their "fun". From the book "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, race-relationships were more common and clear. From page 114 of the book, being a "nigger-lover' was found to be an insult. Now-a-days, it is rude to say that, not because the word itself has a negative meaning, but the fact that the word is even being used is offensive. There are a lot of racism witness today. The only difference is, it is more secretive. It is less likely to be discriminated by your race and it had more severe punishments if caught with racism. The reason for this is most likely that the United States of America is trying to make this country a more comfortable place to live in. My theory on why racism still exists today, is beacuse the human race is too used to get a group of people and put all their blames on them, take out their anger on them, and to throw insults on them. However, you would most likely not hear on the news about a bus, filled with people who are against racism, being blown up. The people in America would rather use harsh words to support racism; which can have a longer lasting effect. Racim has never bothered me personally. I have been in situations when racism was used against me, but it was not severe at all. If we would all work together, regardless of race, the world would be a better place to live in. We have more people to go for help and also, there would be less crimes and more people would be happy. Overall, race-relationships are a lot better today than in the 60's and even the 30's.
